Kotsay on the block? / Don't do it Beane!!!!

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2089236

The Yankees are trying to get Oakland's Mark Kotsay, who can be a free agent at the end of the year. But whether or not Brian Cashman will give up the prospects needed to get one of the game's premier center fielders, like right-hander Philip Hughes and perhaps third baseman Eric Duncan, remains to be seen. Cashman has talked to a number of general managers, but isn't offering to break up the team as some have suggested. Getting Kotsay would completely change their outfield defense and give them a solid leadoff hitter as they try to move Tony Womack.
Kotsay has stated that he wants to stay in Oakland long-term and Beane said he wanted to sign him. He lives on the west coast and the yanks have nothing we want. I can't see this happen and I'll be if it ever did

Don't give them Duncan or Wang or Cano. Let Kotsay stay in oakland, he's happy there.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

If Billy Beane trades Kots, I will SERIOUSLY lose a LOT of interest in this team. Kots is the heart of this team.

I'd like to see them keep him and finish his career with oakland. When Herrera finally comes up Kotsay could always move to left field. Then we'd have a pretty solid outfield of Kotsay, Herrera, and Swisher...

And Eric Byrnes can play for the Braves.

    In the SF Chronicle today:

Mark Kotsay arrived in Oakland last season after the club's four- year playoff run, and the A's failed to make the postseason for the first time since 1999. Now they're rebuilding, and Kotsay makes no secret of wanting to play for a winner.

Although Kotsay is signed through 2006 at $6.5 million per, he can exercise an option to become a free agent after this season, based on how his contract is structured -- he gained that right because he was traded from the Padres in November 2003.

On the other hand, his agent, Greg Genske, is working on a possible extension and spoke Friday with A's general manager Billy Beane.

"I think they've exchanged possibilities of getting something done," said Kotsay, the leading candidate to represent the A's at the July 12 All-Star Game. "I definitely like it here, but I want to win. Everyone in this clubhouse wants to win. A lot of these guys, like (Eric Chavez) and Barry (Zito), they've been to the postseason. They've had the experiences ... and obviously want to get back there."

Peter Gammons reported on ESPN.com that the Yankees are pursuing Kotsay to play center field, between Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield, and that prospects such as pitcher Philip Hughes and third baseman Eric Duncan could be shipped to Oakland.

The A's say they're not shopping Kotsay, and Kotsay called the report "speculation."

Kotsay has a limited trade clause but could be dealt to the Yankees without his permission.

    here

Jun 20 The A's quickly shot down trade rumors that had Kotsay going to the Yankees, and apparently are interested in signing Kotsay to a contract extension according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Recommendation: Kotsay's current contract runs through the 2006 season.

The Cubs are debating how hard to pursue Oakland Athletics center fielder Mark Kotsay. Trading for him might answer one question but raise others.

Looks like CF Mark Kotsay will work out a contract extension with Oakland after all. The pressure level between the parties seems to have been turned down of late and the San Jose Mercury News quotes Kotsay saying there is no urgency to doing a deal.

San Francisco Chronicle (Scroll Down): "Center fielder Mark Kotsay said no official proposals have been exchanged with the A's on a two-year contract extension; the talks have been 'hypothetical,' he said"
"Mark Kotsay is solid but the Yankees shouldn't accede to Oakland's request of third baseman Eric Duncan and pitching prospect Philip Hughes. 'They're pretty legit prospects,' one AL exec said."
this one is kinda old news:

"The player atop the Yankee wish list is Mark Kotsay, who has a clause that he can make himself a free agent at the end of this season... The A's like Eric Duncan a lot, and also Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang, whom the Yanks do not want to deal. The Cubs and to some degree the Red Sox (Johnny Damon is in his walk year) are also interested."
